Hi all!

Just to let people know what its like taking the BIG jump!

A few months ago I got Vista'd... wiped my machine and went for Linux..

1. Yes they have Boinc
2. My machine doesnt run that much faster.
3. I had wireless driver issues.. That took 4 hours searching and installing.
4. Installing... they have no .exe files its all sudo blah blah blah.
5. Nvidia cards dont work at the blazing pace of windows.... If they do let me know.
6. It has only crashed twice on the laptop and never on the home PC.
7. I still have to punch in my Password every time I update or want to change a programme.... not as often as vista.
8. If you have a windows programme you JUST HAVE TO USE... they have WINE.. its a Windows emulator, has worked for me with no loss of speed.

If you want to know any more I am no expert but I could sell this stuff!


BOTTOM LINE: If your machine is working fine, forget it! If you have an old laptop or PC, give it a go.

Its interesting to get some good feedback like that Earl!

Sounds like you found it was a lot of hard work changing over.

Definitely not for the faint hearted, i'm no expert either so i think i will just stick with windows xp, i'm happy to take what Bill Gates gives me.

Worth noting - If you post messages in the "Team members only" area, i'm probably the only one that will read them. Most people who visit this website forum don't login so very few people ever read messages in this area.

Thats it so Earl, i'm going to convert all my PC's to Linux.
